Aliceson
I studied BA and MFA Fine Art at Goldsmiths College (2009 & 2024).
I began my Art education at Croydon Art Foundation as a single suburban mother of three before going on to Goldsmiths. I recently graduated from the MFA part-time; my children are no longer children, and I now live in Dorset.
Notable exhibitions include - Dorset Open 2025 1st Prize winner, Black Swan Open, Frome 2017,18,19 & 2022 (Peoples Choice Award & Highly Commended- Hauser & Wirth Prize).
I’ve taken part in residencies in Berlin, Sweden, Poland and the UK with various Laurels from International Film Festivals - 5 Honorable mentions from Experimental Forum L.A and semi finalist at Alternative Film Festival.
I work across disciplines, often bringing things together through installation, allowing layered meanings to emerge. Film photography and printmaking are important to me for their length of process and the unknowingness of outcome. Video work is collaged and edited in a playful, slightly clunky way, finding its form through the editing screen rather than from a preformed idea.
There is a certain magic in working like this — leaving space for slippage, chance and serendipity. Like life, you set off in one direction and end up somewhere unexpected. Repetition runs throughout my work, through series, layers, multiple exposures and text, revealing the complexities of outward-facing personas, relationships, humour, grief, and mental and physical health.
I play with documentary, archive and small moments that hint at a bigger picture, creating installations that invite the viewer to drift, pause and reflect.
